D.C. Ranked 4th Among Largest Metro Areas for First-Time Homebuyers

In the recent article “The best and worst metros for first-time homebuyers in 2019, ranked,” it ranked the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria region the twenty-sixth-best metropolitan area for first-time homebuyers in the US. However, when it was compared with the 10 largest metropolitan areas in the country, the D.C. region achieved the fourth-best position. The Washington metropolitan area attained the ranking in part for high scores in the areas of job market and safety.

To compile its rankings, Bankrate completed the 2019 Bankrate Best/Worst Metros for First-time Buyers Study, which measured 13 categories, including market tightness, culture, and affordability among the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the US.

Cycle for Survival Raised More than $2M for Rare Cancer Research

Dedicated to beating rare cancers, Cycle for Survival hosts a series of indoor team cycling events across the U.S. to raise funds for lifesaving rare cancer research and clinical trials. In 2019, the organization reached a significant milestone: raising more than $200 million dollars since its inception in 2007. Every penny Cycle for Survival receives goes to funding cancer research led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the largest and oldest private cancer center in the world, as well as the owner of Cycle for Survival.

The donations came from over 765,000 individuals in all 50 U.S. states. Additionally, the founding partner and host of Cycle for Survival, Equinox, played an integral role in achieving the milestone. It made a commitment to match $400,000 in funds in advance of reaching the $200 million mark.
